FAQ

  • What is Coaching?

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.”

Each ICF coach has their own niche, and I primarily focus on mindset, accountability, and leadership coaching. If you’re not sure whether your challenges or goals fit into that definition, reach out for a consult! I am committed to honesty and transparency in all my coaching conversations, which includes letting you know if I may not be the best coach for you. If I’m not, I’d be more than happy to point you in the right direction to help you find a coach whose specialties are better aligned with your goals.

  • How is coaching different from therapy?

In general, therapy helps people identify and change thoughts or behaviors that are unhealthy or ineffective, focusing on addressing the root causes of those thoughts and behaviors. This won’t apply in every situation, but I often differentiate therapy from coaching by saying therapy is focused more on the past, whereas coaching is focused more on the present and future. I’m a firm believer in the importance of therapy, and I think therapy is the perfect place to start if you’re looking to change your life. Coaching is a great place to pick up if you feel like you’ve made the most of therapy, or therapy and coaching can go hand in hand.

If you aren’t sure whether coaching or therapy is best for you, shoot me an email or set up a consult, and I’d be happy to give you my thoughts. If we start working together, I will always let you know if I think therapy could be beneficial in addition to coaching or if our conversations are touching on topics beyond the scope of my expertise.

  • How does coaching work?

I believe in tailoring coaching to each client and their unique needs. However, there are some consistent steps I take with all clients:

    - All new clients start with a 60-minute foundational session. We use this session to get to know each other a bit better and for you to share background relevant to your coaching goals. During the foundational session, we will start to work together to create a plan of attack. I will share a written plan with my notes with you via email after the call.

    - After the foundational session, follow-up sessions are 45 minutes each. You can schedule them at whatever frequency you’d like, but in general, I recommend scheduling weekly to keep momentum around your goals.

  • how do you approach diversity and inclusion in your coaching?

First, let me be clear: Harmon(y) Coaching is a space built on respect, kindness, and inclusion. Hate, racism, bigotry, or anything that diminishes someone else’s humanity has no place here. Everyone deserves to feel safe and valued, and I’m committed to making sure that’s exactly what happens.

I am all about creating a space where everyone is seen, heard, and supported, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of their identity. I believe personal growth should happen in a way that honors you, rather than trying to change you. My coaching prioritizes understanding, empathy, and respect for each person's unique journey. I want you to feel seen, heard, and supported, exactly as you are, and my goal is to help you step into your fullest potential in a way that feels authentic and empowering.

I also am committed to continuously evolving my approach to ensure I remain sensitive to all clients’ needs. If anything I say or do inadvertently misses the mark, I genuinely welcome that feedback. Creating an inclusive, supportive space is always my priority.

  • Do you offer fitness & nutrition coaching?

I could go on and on about how intertwined your mental and emotional health are with your physical health. Because of that link and a desire to serve my clients in the most effective way, I pursued certifications in nutrition and personal training and am a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200). I do offer nutrition/fitness guidance as add-ons for any of my recurring clients (8+ week coaching packages). However, I don’t offer fitness and nutrition coaching as a standalone service, and these add-ons are not meant to be the primary focus of our coaching relationship. If fitness and/or nutrition coaching is what you’re primarily interested in, I’d be happy to refer you to someone who specializes in those areas! And I’ll say it again…if what you’re looking for is beyond the scope of my expertise, I will let you know that up front.
